With my #TeamTower adventure coming to a close, I felt rather than writing the generic “what I learnt” blog, I’d leave my #InternBlog series with something of more value. With that said, I leave with you the most valuable thing I have to offer, my advice for anyone in a similar position to myself and my potential successors.

The world is a huge place with endless possibilities so before you start the search for experience, I feel it’s extremely important to ask yourself the following questions.

  • What are your interests? What do you like to do? Think about your interests and see which careers fit, this way you can gain valuable experience while doing something you’re interested in/good at so it doesn’t feel like work at all!
  • What are you curious about? Like I said, the world is a big place with endless opportunities and options, EXPLORE THEM! Have you ever wondered how it would be to work as a chef, a radio host, a banker? Go find out! You’re young and have nothing to lose, take advantage of this and try out as many different jobs, in as many different sectors as you can. This way you can cross options off your list or maybe even discover that passion you never knew you had!
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Not everyone knows what they want to do or knows where they’re headed (#Same), but if you’re one of the lucky ones that does, pursue it! If you know what you want to do, build up the perfect resume from now, if you’re planning on being a lawyer, intern at a law firm every chance you get, get that experience from now and one-up your competition when the race to get a job begins. Newbie < Newbie with experience.

P.s. This also gives you the chance to find that maybe what you thought you wanted to do, isn’t actually for you, and that’s okay! Its better you figure that out early rather than after you finish four years of schooling.

  • What do YOU want to do? Emphasis on the YOU. Don’t let anyone force you into a future you don’t want, it’s your life and at the end of the day it’s you that has to wake up and go to that job every day. Take your life into your own hands and do what makes you happy. Work that you love, technically isn’t work at all!

Looking back at my experience, I can honestly say I have no regrets choosing to devote my time to Tower. I’ve expanded my understanding, developed professional communication skills and have had the opportunity to be involved in the behind the scenes magic that is marketing, something that proved invaluable to me.

The diverse clientele at Tower mean that I not only have worked on many different and challenging projects, but no two days have been the same. I have loved the balance between office work such as press release, blog writing and campaign strategy, and hands on work such as photo shoots and dressing up as Sir Turtle to greet Cayman Airways competition winners(see below).

For someone like me, who strives to be creative and fears being miserable doing the same tedious work every day, a place like Tower fulfills those desires and I have nothing but gratitude for them having allowed me to gain this awareness. So in my final address to the public, I’d like to say THANK YOU #TEAMTOWER, you didn’t have to offer this internship programme, you didn’t have to accept me as a part of the team and teach me the ways of marketing, but you did, and both Cayman and I appreciate everything you do to make our worlds a more colourful, creative and beautiful place.

#StefanOut.
