Harneys is delighted to announce the recruitment of two partners and one senior associate to the firm’s investment funds practice in the Cayman Islands.
Ian Gobin, Matthew Taber and Jonathan Bernstein are leaving Appleby and will join Harneys in the Cayman Islands as soon as they are free to do so under their existing arrangements. Ian is currently a partner (and until recently was global head of funds and investment services) for Appleby. Matthew and Jonathan, counsel and senior associate respectively, are members of Appleby’s funds and investment services department in the Cayman Islands. They have a combined 30 years’ experience working with institutional clients and onshore law firms in the Cayman funds market. Michelle Bolingbroke will also join Harneys as a business development manager.
Harneys’ Global Head of Funds Jonathan Culshaw said: “We look forward to welcoming Ian, Matthew and Jonathan to our global funds team which has experienced significant growth over the last two years. The recruitment of these excellent lawyers builds on our momentum and stands testament to our commitment to build a leading Cayman Islands funds practice.”
Managing Partner of Harneys in the Cayman Islands, Marco Martins, said: “In a short period of time, our Cayman Islands funds practice has carved out leading positions in key markets, particularly in Asia, Latin America, and parts of Africa, Europe and the Middle East. We have done that by getting closer to our clients, focusing on better understanding their needs and drivers, and delivering a seamless global service across times zones, languages and commercial practices. With the launch of a North America office last year we improved our ability to offer clients in key parts of North America similarly enhanced, more responsive and more attuned services. The addition of Ian, Matt and Jon will enable us to take this offering further, and to deliver an even better service to clients in North America and globally.”
Global Managing Partner Peter Tarn commented: “We have been making significant investments across our transactional and contentious legal teams in the Cayman Islands and alongside that building capacity in our corporate and fiduciary businesses. The addition of Ian, Matthew, Jonathan and Michelle is another massive step forward in our ability to offer clients the kind of comprehensive and excellent service they need from a full service Cayman Islands practice.”
