As a commitment to keeping the local football and wider community informed, the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Executive Committee has increased the frequency of its meetings and will be providing regular updates on ongoing football initiatives in the Cayman Islands.

Mr Bruce Blake, CIFA Acting President, said work on the artificial grass field at the CIFA Centre of Excellence, funded by FIFA’s Goal Project Programme, was progressing.
“The subgrade work, which is being undertaken by Scotts Equipment Ltd., has commenced and should be completed within the next two weeks,” he said. “The artificial turf is scheduled to arrive on-island on 25 June and will be installed by Edel Grass, out of Holland – the contractor selected by FIFA – working with its local contractors Island Paving Ltd. Completion of this project is scheduled for early August. We look forward to our national teams training at this facility.”

CIFA’s 49th annual congress is also scheduled to be held in August. As usual, annual reports, which include annual audited financial statements will be presented to the membership in advance of the congress. After the Congress the annual reports are also provided to the Cayman Islands Ministry of Sports and to FIFA.

Another upcoming event is CIFA’s annual awards ceremony, to be held on June 26th at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. The awards will celebrate local players, coaches, officials and administrators and honour members of the football community who participate in the Association’s eleven leagues and programmes for both male and female in all age categories.

Finally, further to the earlier announcement by CONCACAF’s Executive Committee, CIFA can confirm the postponement of the CONCACAF Boys’ Under-15 Championship 2015 until further notice.

The statement issued on CONCACAF’s website states “CONCACAF is committed to restoring a full slate of complementary youth development tournaments in the shortest possible time. This includes our objective to re-schedule the Under-15 Boys’ Championship, at the soonest opportunity.

Mr Blake reiterated CIFA’s commitment to the development of youth football in the Cayman Islands and stressed that the Under 15 team will continue to train. If it is confirmed that the CONCACAF Boys’ Under-15 Championship will not take place this year, CIFA is committed to seeking an alternative tournament for the team to participate in this summer.
