The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is proud to announce a new addition to its fleet of vehicles designated for patient care thanks to a generous donation from the Caring for Life Foundation (CFLF). The newly designed Ford Transporter is specially intended to manage the needs of non-acute patients requiring wheelchair or mobility assistance. Its sleek design with ample interior and large windows allows for a safe and comfortable experience.
The CFLF is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission it is to raise funds to purchase equipment for the HSA. These donations allow the HSA to continue to provide the residents and visitors of the Cayman Islands with improved healthcare consistent with advances being made throughout the developed world.
Kristin Dilbert, Chair of the CFLF said “Since the inception of the Foundation in 2010 equipment has been donated to the HSA every year. This year we are proud to donate a purpose built Non-Emergency vehicle, thanks to our donors and sponsors.”
Other sponsors include the Pink Ladies Volunteer Corp, Flowers Group, Walkers and Rotary Sunrise.
Nancy Whitefield, Chair of the Pink Ladies Volunteer Corp, said they are long-standing supporters of the Health Services Authority and a contributor in the purchase of the transporter. “All of our Pink Ladies were delighted to be able to provide funds to assist with the purchase of the vehicle,” Ms Whitefield said. “It is especially pleasing to be able to give back to the community through this donation.”
Stephen Duval, EMS Manager at the Health Services Authority, said, “This multifunctional vehicle will fill a much-needed void allowing us to better serve our non-acute patients who have mobility needs. The ramp can hold up to 800 pounds allowing for the various styles of wheelchairs and even a stretcher if needed.”
The Specialist Clinic, Dialysis and Physiotherapy Units of the Health Services Authority all have a considerable number of out-patients who have difficulty with transportation to and from their appointments.
Lizzette Yearwood, Chief Executive of HSA, said “This is a very exciting opportunity for the Health Services Authority, as access to patient care is among our top priorities. To determine eligibility, please speak your HSA physician or section nurse as needs assessment by your physician will be required in addition to verification of your appointment schedule.
In 2015-2016, the Board of Trustees of the Caring for Life Committee has an aggressive plan to upgrade certain equipment and facilities at the HSA and will continue to seek the help of the community.
