The Devil You KnowThere is still time to buy tickets for the hottest night of the year so far, the exclusive premiere of a uniquely Cayman-based community project – the world premiere of the short film, The Devil You Know, which takes place this Saturday, 13th September at Camana Bay Regal Cinemas. There will be 5 showings of the short film, starting from 6pm, but hurry, tickets have sold out for the first 4 showings, and only 10:30pm show time tickets remain. Saturday will be the only viewing before the film is shown at international film festivals.

Written, shot, directed and produced in the Cayman Islands, The Devil You Know is a thriller made by a cast and crew of 40 people – all local residents, with half that number Caymanian.

It is therefore likely viewers will know at least a couple of the stars: established actress Abbey Le Cornu takes the female lead as “Vanessa”; former Royal Navy physical trainer Ronnie James Hughes is the lead male character, “Bishop”; Lindsay Japal, the reigning Miss Cayman is “Izzy”; business man Matthew Leslie is “Josh”; Julia Flanagan is another established actress and plays “Renee”; actor Hamish Sturgeon is “Alexi” and radio star Kate Macpherson plays “Rachel”.

Director Badir Awe said he was immensely proud of the community project that the movie had become.

“In the process of creating this movie we have utilised many different types of artists in Cayman: writers, actors, visual artists, technical artists, producers, editors, audio specialists. From young to old, from technical to practical, so many talented artists have contributed in making this film,” he explained.

Awe hoped the film will be screened at international festivals, so that Cayman could represent itself on the world stage.

“This is truly a Caymanian film produced by the talented and blessed people of the Cayman Islands,” he confirmed.

Director Trevor Murphy noted the incredible amount of hard work that went into producing The Devil You Know.

“The effort from the cast and crew has been immense,” he said. “So many people have come together to create what will be a fun and entertaining short film. The response from the public in buying tickets shows the faith they have in us to deliver. It’s truly been a team effort and we wouldn’t be at this point without the support from sponsors and community, notably the team at X107.1!”

The premiere event includes viewing the film, as well as never before seen footage of behind the scenes and a full red carpet style after-party where guests receive a free drink and will be free to mingle with the cast and crew. Sponsors of the exciting world premiere include X107.1, Tower, Gun Bay Vodka, Cayman National, Logic and Dart. The 2014 Miss Cayman Islands contestants are expected to attend, as well as other distinguished guests.

Tickets are just $25 and include attendance to the film premiere, behind the scenes film, and access to the cast and crew at the after-party, hosted at Abacus. Tickets are nearly sold out, but there is still limited available at the Discovery Centre in Camana Bay.

Organisers also wish to thank these incredible companies, without whose support the movie could not have been made; Abacus, CNCF, AL Thompsons, Bliss Yoga, Rock Gorgeous, Better Angle, Laurens Cafe, Lions Productions, CIAA, Prospect Playhouse, Caribbean Club and Royal Palms.
