For the third year in a row, RE/MAX Cayman Islands has taken part in the Purple Dragon Martial Arts scholarship programme. The programme originated when RE/MAX hosted an essay competition in 2012 encouraging children to finish the statement “I want to be a Purple Dragon Warrior because…”. The winner of this essay is the same student that RE/MAX continues to sponsor today.
Sensei Floyd Baptiste from Purple Dragon Cayman Islands said he is grateful that RE/MAX has chosen to continue their participation in this scholarship programme. “This student has excelled and has recently just received is blue belt at grading”, Sensei Floyd said.
“He [the student] won the essay contest because his answer said he wanted to be a Purple Dragon Warrior so that he could protect his friends from bullies”, Sensei Floyd said. “We later learned the student was also a victim of bullying himself and he has now built the confidence to stand up for himself and his friends. Learning the sport of karate, he has also improved his ability to focus and pay closer attention during school.”
RE/MAX Broker/Owner James Bovell said they are happy to continue their commitment to the Purple Dragon scholarship.
“We are so pleased with the progress that this student is making. Now 10 years old, he is able to use the skills learned in class in his personal life and at school”, Mr Bovell said. “It is programmes such as this that provide the opportunity to children to participate in activities that their family would otherwise not have the financial means to do so.”
“At RE/MAX it is part of our company’s culture to give back to the community, especially Cayman’s youth”, Bovell said. “We also receive updated status reports about our sponsored student, which provides us the positive feedback on his continued success.”
Purple Dragon are very grateful for RE/MAX’s sponsorship and say they are thankful for their initial and ongoing efforts to make the Purple Dragon Scholarship programme what is it today.
“Without RE/MAX the scholarship programme would not be where it is today. We have the utmost gratitude and appreciation for their support”, said Sensei Floyd of Purple Dragon.
