June 14th marked the 11th annual World Blood Donor Day, which was observed at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA).  Minister of Health, Hon. Osbourne Bodden made a visit to the HSA to tour the blood bank and to talk to donors.

“Giving blood is something that takes little time and you can save up to three lives with just one donation”, Minister Bodden said.  “It was a pleasure visiting with the donors and I personally extend a warm thank you to all that are on the Cayman Islands Blood Donor Service list”.

Ms Judith Clarke, HSA Laboratory Manager said that this year’s focus was not only to receive blood donations, but to get new donors registered and to build awareness about the blood bank.

“We had a great turn out with 37 new people registered to be added to the donor list, 14 of whom donated blood on Saturday.  We had a total of 21 units of blood collected and encourage people to continue to donate”, Ms Clarke said.

Anyone interested in becoming a donor or would like to schedule an appointment to donate, please call 345-244-2669 or 345-244-2674.
