The Cayman Heart Fund (CHF) recently made a generous donation to the Physiotherapy Department at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA). The donated items included a blood pressure/pulse oximeter machine, laptop, projector, stopwatch and radio/CD player – all items necessary to provide cardiac rehabilitation.

The blood pressure machine is portable and also has capability to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood without having to draw blood from the patient. The laptop and projector will be used for giving group presentations and the stopwatch and radio will be used during therapy with the patients.

Mr David Dinner, Chairman of the Cayman Heart Fund said they were delighted to provide the HSA with this equipment. “The Physiotherapy Department deals with a wide range of patients with very different needs, including patients who are undergoing rehabilitation following a cardiac event. The items donated will help the HSA provide those patients with the necessary after-care and monitoring so crucially needed after suffering from a heart attack or stroke”, he said.

“In addition to the equipment donated we also printed 2,000 cardiac rehabilitation brochures to help further educate patients about the cardiac rehabilitation programme available at the HSA. As a not-for-profit organisation, the Cayman Heart Fund is dedicated to reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease through education, detection and prevention”, Mr Dinner said.

Cayman Heart Fund representatives presented the equipment to HSA Medical Director Dr Delroy Jefferson, as well as HSA Physiotherapy Department staff.

“We are very thankful to the Cayman Heart Fund for their continued support to the Health Services Authority”, Dr Jefferson stated. “All of this equipment, no matter how large or small, will help improve our patients’ experience.”
