The Cayman Islands is gearing up for a fantastic weekend of top class rugby as the SteppingStones North American & Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Rugby Sevens will take place this Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November, where spectators will enjoy world class Rugby Sevens action.
SteppingStones Managing Director Milly Serpell said she and her team are incredibly excited to be the title sponsor of such a major event in the Cayman sporting calendar.
“The NACRA Rugby Sevens is a truly prestigious event in the rugby world and we are all really pleased that we have been able to be part of such a wonderful tournament. The fact that Cayman is able to host such an important sporting event elevates Cayman’s stature globally when it comes to sporting events,” she stated. SteppingStones has been active in the rugby community for the past few years, sponsoring local touch rugby teams, which aligns with their focus of supporting community athletics.
In total, Cayman will be hosting 15 teams, all eager to win in order to qualify for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow next year, the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organisation (CACSO) games in Vera Cruz Mexico and the HSBC World Sevens Series Hong Kong tournament in 2014. The teams will compete in over 50 matches throughout the two-day tournament.
To raise the anticipation stakes even higher for this weekend’s excitement, SteppingStones has been running a competition for the past three weeks on its Facebook page to win tickets to the two-day event. Winners were presented with a pair of all-weekend pass tickets by SteppingStones staff.
SteppingStones is also taking the opportunity to further support its Stepping Up for the Community programme during the tournament, as Mrs Serpell advises: “Over the two days SteppingStones staff will be collecting extra change to donate to Special Olympics, and SteppingStones will match the contributions, so we ensure that a worthy cause will also benefit from Cayman hosting this exciting event.”
“Stepping Up for the Community, which is now in its third year, is a programme at SteppingStones that we are very proud of” Mrs Serpell said. “Many of our temporary and permanent staff members voluntarily donate a portion of their paycheque each month which is then matched by SteppingStones and donated to local charities. We are delighted that Special Olympics will benefit this month from the donation because we are firmly committed to furthering sports within the community and are pleased to be able to facilitate development for our local special needs athletes.”
