“Rudolf discovers the Cayman Islands,” the children’s book created by local author Paul Schreiner, is back on island for the second year in a row in an effort to raise funds for the Family Resource
Centre to assist with their Take a Stand Against Bullying campaign.
In 2016, sales from the Christmas themed children’s book managed to raise KYD,200 for the anti-bullying campaign, and Mr Schreiner hopes to increase that figure this year.
“Sales exceeded our expectations in our first year,” he said. “Now that the book has been out there in the community and people know what we are all about, the expectation is that we will increase those numbers this time around.”
The book follows the story of Rudolf’s journey to the Cayman Islands after he leaves the North Pole when he is bullied by the other reindeer. Rudolf visits many easily recognisable local attractions during the course of the book, making it the perfect gift for any young child living in or interested in the Cayman Islands.
Charmaine Miller, programme coordinator at The Family Resource Centre, said that proceeds from the book in 2015 were a big help to the Centre’s programme development efforts.
“It was an honour to have the Family Resource Centre’s efforts recognised by Mr Schreiner and his book,” Ms Miller said. “The funds raised were very helpful in the expansion of our anti-bullying programme. Because of that, we were also able to launch two new programmes this year.”
Local marketing company, Tower, is back on board for the second year to assist with promotions of the book.
“When we find a project like this that is not only fun and creative but rewarding and impactful within the community we jump at the opportunity to work on it,” said Lynne Byles, Managing Director at Tower. “The book stands for something very important and we are proud to be involved in that message.”
The book is currently on shelves at AL Thompsons and Books & Books for KYD$15, and will be available through Christmas. There is a limited supply at each location, so ensure to purchase your copy early.
