WESTON, Fla. – August 2, 2016 – Cleveland Clinic – a Top 5 mainstay in U.S. News & World Report’s annual hospital rankings for 18 consecutive years – has climbed to No. 2 in the U.S. while retaining its position as the nation’s No. 1 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery for the 22nd successive year.

The annual survey of best hospitals also ranked Cleveland Clinic Florida No. 1 of 70 hospitals in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area for 2016-2017. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area includes Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach and serves as an important gateway to patients from Latin America and the Caribbean who are seeking high quality care.

“We are thrilled beyond measure to be recognized by our peers for our focus on quality and patient safety,” said Wael Barsoum, M.D., President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. “These accolades belong to our team of caregivers who are truly committed to providing exceptional service and putting patients first.”

In addition to metro area rankings, US News and World Report also ranked Cleveland Clinic Florida 5th among 263 hospitals in Florida, moving up four spots from the previous year. Several specialties were also recognized as Gastroenterology and GI surgery ranked #49 nationally and orthopaedics and geriatrics were ranked as high performing specialties.

“The ranking is an important milestone for our organization region-wide as our patients in Latin America and Caribbean have the peace of mind knowing they can find the most advanced care that is just a short plane ride away,” Barsoum said.

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
