First ran in 2012, the fourth edition of the 2016 Generali Worldwide Mercuryman will take place on January 17th 2016. With an unbeatable setting on the Caribbean coastline and a top quality entry list, the Generali Worldwide Mercuryman promises to open the 2016 racing season in style.
“I had a fantastic experience at Mercuryman triathlon last year. The attention to detail was exceptional, the venue made race preparations easy and carefree. Finally, the welcoming spirit of the island and its beauty both from its community, fellow racers and views made it an experience I will never forget. I’ll keep coming back for years to come! This race is a must do!”
Other 2015 Competitors included former downhill ski champion and Ironman specialist American Lisa Roberts; American triathlete and trainer Emily Cocks; Canadian triathlete, dietitian and former ballerina Jennifer Lentzke; and former competitive gymnast American Charisa Wernick. Growing year after year, the 2016 Generali Worldwide Mercuryman, is expected to draw even more international triathletes, both amateur and professional.
The Island’s terrain provides the ultimate paradise triathlon for competitors with a 1.2 mile swim in the warm Caribbean Sea within the protected waters of the Reefs, followed by a 56 mile cycle across Cayman’s spectacular East End, through quiet flat roads before finishing with a 13.1 mile run – of lung-bursting warm coastal breezes.
“With so many short and easy direct flights from the US to the Cayman Islands, the 2016 Generali Worldwide Mercuryman continues to attract international triathletes,” Race director Trevor Murphy said. “Starting and finishing at the Wyndham Resort, triathletes enjoy East End’s clear waters for swimming, quiet and flat roads for cycling and running and a ‘paradise’ destination which athletes and their families can enjoy during their post-race vacation.”
Visiting athletes and their families are encouraged to stay at the Wyndham Reef Resort, the official host hotel of the Mercuryman Triathlon where they can benefit from special room prices.
Cayman Airways are also waiving bike box fees for all visiting athletes, and fly direct to the Cayman Islands from Miami, New York, Tampa, Chicago, Dallas, Cuba, Jamaica and Honduras. Additional US gateways with direct flightpaths include Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, Newark, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
Athletes wishing to participate in the 2016 Generali Worldwide Mercuryman can register online at mercurymantri.com/registration. Main registration is $170 for individual half iron-man, $150 for aqua bike and $250 for relay and 2-2-2 teams. All prices will increase in the New Year.
The 2-2-2 relay allows two triathletes to split the half-iron distance by tagging in and out throughout the swim, bike, and run disciplines. Each registered 2-2-2 team has complete control to mix and match however they like, however each team member must complete half of each discipline.
The Generali Worldwide Mercuryman 2016 charity of choice is the Stroke Warriors of Cayman, along with the East End Primary School which is supported every year.
